Best Herbs for Women
Updated on May 9, 2018

Womanhood means something different for every woman, but one thing is universal: as daughters, mothers, spouses, friends and coworkers, our default mantra is often “give, give, give.” At times, this outward flow of energy can be downright draining. That’s where herbs can be great allies. By incorporating herbs into your everyday wellness regimen, you can continue to fuel yourself, even when you’re on the go. When you fill your own cup, you’ll have more energy to share with others.

Women have been connected to herbs since the dawn of time. Medicine women, foragers, and mothers have passed down this tradition throughout the generations to keep herbalism alive and thriving. Sharing your herbal knowledge with your loved ones not only helps them learn how to care for others, but also themselves. In that same spirit, we highly recommend Rosemary Gladstar’s classic book, Healing Herbs for Women, a super resource to consult when your body needs a little support.

Below, we’ve put together a small collection of some of our favorite herbs for women, sure to get you through all chapters of a woman’s life, from puberty to menopause. Accessible in a variety of formats, from teas and tinctures to loose herbs, bars and powders, these herbs make excellent additions to your home apothecary. While we recommend some of our favorites here, not all herbs are appropriate for all people. Make sure to consult your health care practitioner to find out which ones are right for you. Please scroll to the bottom of the page to find out how you can find these herbs.

How to find these herbs

Bitter Fennel: You can find this hardy perennial in our Fennel tea.

Raspberry Leaf: We call raspberry’s leaves “a girl’s best friend,” and we feature it in our Raspberry Leaf, Healthy Cycle® and Pregnancy® teas.

Skullcap: This dainty, blue-flowered member of the mint family puts the “ease” in our Stress Ease® Cinnamon tea.

While we don’t currently feature black cohosh, cramp bark, sage or vitex as an active ingredient in our herbal products, we recommend consulting Mountain Rose Herbs to find them in loose herb form, tinctures and capsules. Like us, this company was founded by Rosemary Gladstar and has some of the highest quality criteria available.
